Commissioning Original Art

It’s easier than you think!

The journey of taking on a commission has a few steps to follow but the results are worth it.

Initially I work with my client to select photo reference material that captures character, details, colour accuracy and position. This usually means selecting several photos for the information they contain and one of these needs to capture the position of head and body desired for the finished work.

After photos are selected we discuss the desired size and media for the portrait - as paintings the choices are watercolour and oils. Alternatively the client can choose to have a small sculpture created. The sculpture can be a bas relief that is suitable for framing and displaying on the wall or a free standing piece perfect for adorning a mantle or table top.

Throughout the process of the commission I am in fairly frequent contact with my client, satisfying questions and sending an update or two.

I’ve included more details on Commissions down below.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me at hello@reneefukumoto.com and I’d be happy to chat with you.

Commissions:

* Prices are in CAD

* All Commissions require a 50% deposit (non-refundable) before work commences, with the remainder paid upon completion and prior to shipping or pickup.

* All Gift Certificates must be paid in full, non refundable.

* Shipping and handling fees are extra and depend upon location.

*Taxes and duties for pieces that ship outside Canada are the sole responsibility of the purchaser.

* The balance of the commission fee will be due upon completion and prior to shipping.

* If the commission involves photos that you provide I will have to approve them. There is a big difference in the quality of various photos in terms of how useful and easy they are to work from as resource material. You can submit photos for approval and I will discuss with you whether they will be appropriate. There could be a surcharge for me to work from inferior quality photos.

* Edits may or may not be possible, depending on the media and process used.

* Edits may incur an extra fee.

 * The commission fee does not include framing or mats.

 * I retain all copyrights to the work, which include the right to make reproductions for sale, display on my website and social media etc. If the commissioner wishes to purchase reproduction rights we can discuss that with your commission inquiry.

If you have any questions I’d love to hear from you!
