Watercolour Horse Portrait Commission

Watercolour horse portrait with background.

It’s been my great honour and pleasure to paint commissioned portraits of animals and people over the years.
There’s always a little anxiety involved too, to be honest. Sometimes there’s been more than a little especially when working with poor reference photos and attempting to capture that photo. Ugh. This process and its expectations have caused me to all but give up on painting commissions.

However I feel I’ve come to a place where I can offer a beautiful celebration and commemoration of a pet or place in a style that complements the subject without becoming an exhaustively nit picky process. I’ve fallen in love with looser watercolour styles in order better to capture emotion and the spirit of the subject rather than the photographic details of particularly distorted photographs that are lacking details. Goodness knows I’ve spent years cross referencing and digging up details from other sources to plug in to the painting, many hours spent per painting that do not in the end feel to me like a worthy investment for the results. Sure, my clients have been happy and satisfied but I have not.

Thus to find clients that love my looser more emotive style is such a blessing to me! I will lean in to this style and process and hopefully soon offer commissions again, as my schedule opens up and my health permits.
